Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions. Don’t see yours? Call or message your nearest location.

Do I need a referral?

Some insurance plans, often HMO-type plans, require a referral from your primary care provider before you see a specialist, so please check with your insurance plan. If your plan needs a referral, ask your primary care office to send it to the location you plan to visit. Questions? Call your location or message us.

Which insurance plans do you accept?

Insurance plans change often, so please call your office to check your coverage before your visit.

What should I bring, and when should I arrive?

Bring your photo ID and a list of your medicines. If your plan requires a referral, please make sure it has been sent before your visit. Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first visit.

What is a first visit like?

We will confirm your appointment, check your photo ID, and the clinician will examine the concern you came in for.

What should I expect on the day of Mohs surgery?

Mohs surgery removes skin cancer one thin layer at a time and checks the edge under a microscope during the visit. Reconstruction is usually done the same day.

How long do results take?

Biopsy results usually take about 7 to 10 days. Call your location if you have not heard back and were told to expect a result.

How do I cancel or reschedule?

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please call your location as early as you can so we can offer the time to another patient.

How often should I have a skin check?

Most adults benefit from a yearly skin exam; your provider may recommend more frequent checks if you’ve had skin cancer or have many moles. Check your own skin once a month. A printable body map is on the skin self-check page.

Can my cancer insurance policy help with radiation costs?

Often, yes. Supplemental cancer policies, such as Aflac, usually pay benefits directly to you for radiation treatment, including superficial radiation therapy. Let your location know you have a policy and ask what paperwork it needs. Benefits depend on your policy; check with your insurer. Read more about cancer insurance policies.

What can I do in the Patient Portal?

Registered patients can view their pathology (biopsy) reports and scheduled appointments, and pay a bill. To register, please call your location. To reach our team, call your location or message us. Open the Patient Portal (opens in new tab)
