Common signs
- Raised pink or red welts
- Welts that change shape or move around

How it is treated
Treatment usually starts with identifying triggers and taking antihistamines. Hives lasting more than six weeks (chronic urticaria) may need additional prescription treatment.
When to see a dermatologist
Seek emergency care right away for hives with trouble breathing, throat tightness or swelling of the tongue. See a dermatologist if hives keep returning.
